Program Description: Mary’s Place offers basic level English instruction in tandem with our Professional ESOL classes taught by teachers from the Rochester City School District’s Office of Adult and Career Education Services (OACES). This class strives to teach beginners English to adult clients. We start with the basics of “survival” English and go deeper into important household and “out on the town” English. While our OACES classes are on hold, we currently offer volunteer-run English conversation classes twice per week.

Program Days/Times: CURRENTLY PAUSED

Volunteer Description: Each Volunteer takes on a class of 3-15 students weekly, they are responsible for dictating curriculum, pacing, and style of the class. Note: classes are taught only in English. No other language fluency is required.

Time Commitment: Minimum 3 hour per week 1-hour planning 2 hours of class time

Training: Volunteers will observe and shadow classes taught by current volunteers. They may then pair with current volunteers to co-teach classes or take on their own day of the week to teach.
