Tonia Canty-McKinney, LMSW

Tonia came to us in August, 2022 as a Clinical Preventive Worker. Tonia has experience working with various populations in this role and is skilled in supporting families who experience mental health issues that create barriers to effective parenting. Along with this, Tonia has several years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Tonia has a strong history of advocacy for underserved populations.

Tonia is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. where she serves as the chair of the Connection and Social Action Committee. She is also the treasurer for the Rochester Twenty Pearls Foundation and a member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she is the chair of the Life Stages Women’s Conference.

Tonia grew up in Rochester and is a proud graduate of Rochester City School district. Tonia is married to Chris who has been supportive throughout her educational and professional journey. Tonia and Chris have six adult children of their own, but many call them “mom” and “dad”.

Tonia is excited about coming to Mary’s Place and becoming more familiar with the needs of the Refugee population and partnering with families in a different, more immediate way. Tonia is a strong advocate of human rights and welcomes the opportunity to learn and grow with families from various cultural backgrounds.
