Sophie McCotter

Sophie McCotter is originally from Utah and relocated to Rochester in 2022. She received a Bachelor’s of Science in Music Therapy and a minor in Portuguese from Utah State University with Cum Laude honors. She also completed training in neurologic music therapy and was president of the USU Music Therapy Student Association. She was also president of USU Portuguese Club and headed the establishment of university connections with the local Portuguese dual language immersion program for children. Sophie engaged in 10 months of volunteer service in Juiz de Fora, Brazil where she immersed herself in Brazilian culture and developed fluency in Portuguese language. Sophie is currently completing her final year of her Masters of Science in Social Work from University of Tennessee, Knoxville as well as a Certificate in Trauma Treatment. She began interning as a case manager at Mary’s Place in July 2023 and completed her internship in April 2024. Currently, Sophie is continuing case management services for refugee clients, collaborating with other organizations in the community, and supervising the training of case worker volunteers and interns.
